About two weeks ago, we decided that Leonidas is old enough now, to be introduced to some basic protection work. Many people advocate to start in an earlier age, but personally I prefer to wait til they are a little a bit more mature and have proved their social skils.

My decoy is fighting the war in Irak and starting your own dogs in basic protection work can be tricky. Especially since all handlers here are non to the dogs from early age. To be honest, we struggled to get some drive out of Leonidas. But patience and innovation, always provides some solutions usually sooner than later.

Dogs are copy cats and the easiest way to learn for them is from another dog.

So we brought in a dog with serious prey drive.....

At first, Leonidas was too sure what was going on....

But shortly after.....

Still very far away from where we need to get but much improved...and thats all I can ask for.

The old pregnant cow Roxy also got excited and wanted a nip...the pics show the copy cat principle

very clearly again.

This way, little Tumi got her first nip as well.
